Santander UK plc was formed in 2010 when Abbey National was combined with Bradford & Bingley. Santander now has almost 1200 branches in the UK, offering a wide variety of bank accounts, including some that charge a fee in return for various benefits. These are known as packaged bank accounts.
Santander’s packaged accounts typically offer insurance policies for travel, mobile phones and gadgets as well as car breakdown cover. Santander also offered an account for people aged over 50 which included health benefits and specialist treatment.
Monthly account fees range from £12 to £20. However, some people may have been sold these accounts without knowing what the benefits are, or without actually qualifying for the insurance policies.
